I have a glass decanter which has been heavily stained with port wine. Does anyone know how to remove the stain.

Have you tried warm water with lots of bicarb, shake vigorously then leave to soak 24 hours
try vinegar and leave for a few hours or over night
apparentley vinegar is used for alot of remedies/ cleaning

I can recall the time when one put some lead shot with water in the decanter and kept swilling it around and around.

The simplest method is to put half an egg cupful of domestic bleach in the decanter, then fill with warm water; give it a good shake and leave for a few hours before rinsing thourougly.

Have no fear the bleach should not harm your decanter; it never has mine. .......Ron
Just a little uncooked rice and water . Swirl it around and it cleans fab..
Put used tea bags in with water swirl around, hope it works for you ,it always has for me,good luck.
Have you tried a Steradent (or similar) tablet with warm water
even better use Milton - it's used to steralise baby bottles and will certainly not harm your glass nor leave it tainted with the taste/smell of bleach.
