The supermarkets have stacks of selection boxes.

The card shops have their christmas stock out.

And the Daily Mail have run its first Christmas banned so as to not offend ethnic minorities story.

I must be the middle of September then.

May I be the first to say... Bah humbug.
I think its not the ethnic minorities who object but instead few people assume that the minorities might object. I will speak for myself. I celebrate Xmas with my in laws and long before I came to England I used to celebrate with lots of my Christian friends in Pakistan. As neighbour we still have two families living in our street in Pakistan and almost all the people go to their home to say happy Christmas every year.
I couldn't give a monkey's about these 'banning Christmas' stories because I love Christmas, and short of tiptoeing down on Christmas day morning to see Santa being mum raped by Rudolph in my front room, I think I always will love Christmas.

I also believe that Muslims, Jews, Jedi's, Jehovah's and any other religion really couldn't give a tinker's cuss about anybody else enjoying Christmas.

The only thing that really does get on my tits are the Guardian reading, Bulger juice drinking white middle class 'right-on' liberals who get upset on other people's behalf when it has got absolutely naff all to do with them.
The thing that pi$$es me off about Christmas is all the religious types who start going on about the "true meaning of Christmas"

I'll tell you what that was - it was drinking and feasting and having a damn good party until they came and nicked our party by plonking their Christmas over our mid-winter knees up.

So this Christmas as soon as someone start off on that - tell them to have another drink and shut the heck up!
Spoken like a true antipodean! (Well one that's been told that heck is more appropriate than the alternative ;0)
Tory MP Robert Goodwill: "'They are petrified that they offend the minority but what they are doing is offending the majority."

Christ. Offended people are rubbish aren't they? As someone cleverer than me once said:

"They come in two flavours - huffy and whiny - and it's hard to know which is worst. The huffy ones are self-important, narcissistic authoritarians in love with the sound of their own booming disapproval, while the whiny, sparrowlike ones are so annoying and sickly and ill-equipped for life on Earth you just want to smack them round the head until they stop crying and grow up. Combined, they're the very worst people on the planet - 20 times worse than child molesters, and I say that not because it's true (it isn't), but because it'll upset them unnecessarily, and these readers deserve to be upset unnecessarily, morning, noon and night, every sodding day, for the rest of their wheedling lives.

Note I used the word "sodding" there, because even though every single one of you knows precisely what word I meant to use, I'm not allowed to use it in print in case the whiny/huffy Axis of Feeble decides to piddle its pants with dismay at the sight of a commonplace assembly of letters."

Jesus was offending people all the time. You can just imagine the Sanhedrin grumbling 'What's he on about, blessed are the meek, he's offending all the non-meek with his pathetic demands, it's PC [Practical Christianity] gone mad.'
They can ban Christmas all they like, but we have a fantastic one in our household, and I look forward to them.
Jake:

Last year after an article in our local paper about "the true meaning of Easter" I wrote a letter to the editor suggesting that the religious types get over their whinging about the issue since it was they who had usurped the true meaning.

Interestly, this Easter and last Christmas there wasn't a single mention about the meaning of either festival. I will make a point of writing any time they publish the Christian rubbish.

Christmas is and has always been the celebration of the (northern) winter solistice while Easter is the Vernal Equinox. Indeed the word Easter means fertility and predates not only the Christians but the origin of all the monotheistic faiths.

I encourage anyone who comes across the Christian claptrap about the corruption of "their festivals" to make a stand.
Yeah, christmas these days has very little to do with religion, sure a lot of people will go to mass(most of whom don't go at any other time of year, the hypocrites) but mostly its about winding down and relaxing with family and friends at the end of another year.

And presents.

So everyone should just enjoy their days off work. Personally I think I would celebrate any festival for a day off work.

And by the way, fact, christmas is a pagan festival, which was used by christians as a way to appease the pagans whilst they were brainwashed... sorry, converted.
