my son is about to fly to thailand with his wife shev would like to take with her a carton of wine you know the type ld travel in that can be brought in any super market does any one know if it would trvel in their luggage

I would be inclined to put it into a rigid plastic box (tupperware type of thing) because there is a risk it will burst.
This sounds like a recipe for getting one's clothes covered in red wine.
Can't imagine why anyone would want to risk that for �10 worth of wine.
I didn`t think you were allowed to carry liquids on a plane these days due to bombs!!!
So long as it's not hand luggage there's no problem. I often do this (french wine being cheap) but wrap in a good plastic bag just in case though I've never had any problems.
I've just had a thought, this applies if there aren't any restrictions on alcohol at the customs. i don't know what Thailand allows in.
