dangerous drivers

Would you be within the law to call the police a report a dangerous driver while out driving yourself.
On Sunday while driving home with H from the MIL's, there was a car in front of us with a lady in her 60's at the wheel. She was all over the road and doing about 20 miles an hour and when I tried to over take she would swerve into the middle of the road so I had to give that one up and follow her. She came to a small village and slowed to about 15 MPH. As she went round a bit of a bend she ended up right in the middle of the road and forced the oncoming cars on to the pavement and continued to drive on seemingly oblivious to what she had just done.
Could we have called the poilice and reported her, giving them her registraion number. Although she didn't actually hit the two cars she forced off the road she continued in front of us for about another 3 miles until she turned off towards a large, very busy main road. All of that time she only got out of the middle of the road when a tractor was coming towards her. Everyone else had to pull over incase she hit them. I would just like to know incase we have the miss fotune of coming across her again.

Little or no action will be taken unless there is more than one report. You might get an "attention to" put out but it is unlikely that any positive action would happen

Sounds like my gran-honestly I wouldn't want to be oncoming traffic to her!

I don't think the police would do anything either, as can't take someone off road when haven't caused an accident.

I think it's time the law changed, as if you think you are a bad/dangerous driver then you have to declare it to the dvla, but come on, most people have cars these days to get around, so what person is gona do that!

I think they should re-take tests at 65 for there own safety and ours.
My nana doesn't know what half the signs mean-she is 75 so think it's 58 years since she took her test-alots changed since then, so in a way it's not there fault as no law, but the law should change!

I once had to report a drink driver - she had brought her car to rest against a neighbour's fence. The police were there in minutes although she had not harmed anyone and was by then so comatose she wouldn't have been able to go anywhere else.
In answr to jenniprice, I think all drivers should have a full eyesight test at an opticians every few years. The fact you can see a number plate when you take the test doesn't allow for eyesight changing - and it doesn't check things like peripheral vision.
I think ALL drivers ought to retake their test every 10 years. Don't be ageist.
Some of the worst drivers are old, yes but also some of the BEST drivers are the older more eperienced ones. Some of the worst drivers are teenagers who have just passed their test and want to show off to their friends or "impress" a girlfriend. But some youg drivers are also excellent.
Remember it's not so long ago comedians made jokes about women drivers (and some still do) but statistically they are probably safer than men.

I said to H ring the police but he reconned, as on here, that they would have done nothing.
I find that on average, Male or female, there are bad drivers on each side, but the older they are the worse they seem to be.
But younger driver have their moment as well. White van man is by far the worst.

Chrisrob-good for you saying "don't be ageist" Very, elderly people in their late 70s-80s maybe, but not in their 60's good god that includes people like me still working full time in a high-powered (ish) career. I know damn well I've still got my wits about me 100% thank you very much.
