Consider these:
1) Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, has registered his party, Fianna Fail, in Northern Ireland. = political reunification ,http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7133848.stm,

2) Aer Lingus (ROI's national airline) pulled out of an Irish airport (Shannon) to relocate in Belfast. = economic reunification

I've been saying this will happen for some years, on this site,

It hasn't happened the way I thought it would, but its still happenning.

Actually, with the ongoing farce of the Barnet Formula, and the West Lothian question, for England, it'll be the best thing that can happen.

What's the West Lothian question?
Why did New Labour do all that devolution rubbish?

Local governments cost an absolute fortune for no benefit that I can see.
couldnt agree more lonnie.
as a Scot, we should be celebrating the unity that is the UK and the sometimes violent history that brought us together and made us what we are now. I wish certain Scottish politicians would stop dwelling in the past and trying to right 500 year-old wrongs.

I hope people in the rest of the UK don't see all Scots as supporting the break-up - I don't know any who do.
Personally I'm sick of whinging sweaties. If its so bad in England then go back up there.

By the way what have sweaties and piles got in common? Ans : They are both much better when they go back up again!

Get rid of them is what I say and send McBottle back too
Hi Pufflette
The West Lothian Question, is basically, where Scottish MPs, can vote on things that are English, But English Mps, can't vote on Scottish matters.

This link explains it in depth.

Panic Button,
Its my belief, that Blair, Brown and Co, have had the single aim, of breaking up the UK since they got in.

I came to that conclusion only a couple of years after they got in, with the token (yes men) English with them.

Thanks for that agreement david, nice to finally have somone onside.

soozmac.
I'm very much in agreement with what you say, and any right minded person would not hold what is happening, against this Scottish populace, just the Scottish goverment of the Uk.
Unfortunately, they are the ones doing the damage.

Devolution-what a joke -and what a boost for nationalism. We, the Welsh had successfully kept the nationalists at bay for years. They could only muster 2 or 3 seats in Westminster and we voted overwhelmingly against devolution in the first referendum in 1977 only to be railroaded into it by a tiny minority by the Labour government at the second referendum. Now Labour have had to suffer the indignity of sharing power with the nationalists! Serve them right.
The UK began to break up in 1921 when Ireland left.

Scottish independence is happening. Not overnight like India, perhaps, but gradually like other Commonwealth countries.

But so what? Scotland and England will still be partners in Europe, with strong ties and an open border with relaxed laws on migration and citizenship.
In my opinion, the reason Bliar and The Clown introduced the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies was to discourage them from pursuing full independence. An English nation ie without Scotland and Wales would never, ever elect a Labour government.
I believe that most Scottish people want the union to continue. We, in England , must not think that the views of the vocal few in Scotland in favour of separation speak for the majority. Historically, too, we owe a lot to the Scots for their sacrifices in both World Wars; just look at what the 51st Highland Division did for example. Absolutely magnificent.

No, I am not a Scot, but a Londoner born and bred.
If people want ther own identity thats fine , let them and there country stand on its own two feet , ref taxes and natural resources, i do not like official forms that do not allow me to say i am an Englishman, collective we are British but I want to be able to choose what I am , is that too much to ask?? or is it pc gone too far OR is it because we are run by scots placed in parliament making one sided decisions to make scotland great again ?? food for thought.......
