If you are asking about dry beans to use for making baked beans, then they are very cheap in any supermarket - look for haricot beans. But I prefer to use canellini beans if I can find an Italian shop. If you're askingabout tins of baked beans, then Tescos or Lidl :)

they are used to blind bake pastries ! you line pastry with baking paper then fill the paper with the beans to weight down the pastry and help it retain its shape

well you can buy the earthenware ones, but I have always used real beans, the cheapest that I can find. The neat thing with doing this is that if its a big pastry case then you use big heavy beans but if it is something smaller and more intricate, then you use lentils wihich fit small cases better. After being used in this way, the beans will be ROCK hard, so keep them separate from your cooking pulses!

I have to admit that in the past I have used pea shingle as baking beans, as I had nothing else suitable.

At around two quid for 50 kilos it's certainly cheap - available from B&Q, Wickes and all leading DIY and garden centres.  ;o)

you can use dry pasta that works just as well as baking beans and cheaper as well
