My mother will be with us for Sunday lunch, as she is every week, but this week she has had a stomach bug and been told to eat only bland foods such as rice, potatos, white toast with the merest hint of spread and bananas. We'll have our normal roast on Saturday to avoid torturing her too much, but has anyone any ideas on how I can make something a bit more interesting for her and us?
Many thanks, Kirsty & Cassa. I suspect Mum's just been given a quick list of examples and has then edited it down to the most boring bits for effect! I'm sure we'll manage with chicken and stuff.
I have had times when I've needed a low-residue diet- ie- a diet where the food can be digested very easily. It did contain most white food, including chicken. You could give her chicken breast, mashed potato, some white sauce, cauliflower florets and carrots and maybe make some gravy and she can have some if she likes. All these are low-residue foods and should cause her no problems.
Many thanks all! I casseroled some chicken in a plain chicken soup and served it with well-cooked green beans and carrots - then we had a fruit salad of bananas with tinned peaches and pears. She seems to have enjoyed it and is, so far, still alive and well!
