I'm in a bit of a panic now , because I didn't realise that you need a visa to go to Turkey for a holiday .

Can anyone confirm that you have to go in person to the Turkish Embassy to apply for one .

Does anyone know how long it takes to be granted one
( for a British Citizen / uk Passport holder ?

Thanks

The last time I went to Turkey (a few years ago - so maybe things have changed) I didn't need a visa and I certainly didn't need to visit the Turkish Embassy !!

Are you getting confused with the 10 entry fee (probably more now) that you have to pay at the airport when you land?

Thanks jno

Can I just clarify something .

Given that this is a package holiday - will there be enough time to get the visa before we would have to board the coach that the holiday company has arranged ; for transfer from the airport , to the hotel ?
You will have to get the visa before you go through passport control. So I would think that the tour company would wait till everyone was through. It doesn't take that long to get.
I went to Turkey last July and we had to have a 10 note with our passports when we went through the booths at the airport. They would only let one adult at the booth at a time but families could go through together if they had children. It was fine no problems at all, we filled it in on the plane. Donlt forget that if you overstay on the vis you can leave but cannot go bacl for 3 months.

According to the info posters by ABER's - it appears you do need a visa , which costs 10 when you arrive - perhaps this is what you refer to as the entry fee ?

Many thanks to you all

Panic , over
as Dot says, they'll probably want an actual 10 note, preferably in good condition. so you won't be able to pay in coppers.
It is possible to get a visa in advance - but it costs 50.

So unless you visit very frequently 10 on arrival is a bargain.
You should aim to have a 10 note EACH. When we went some familes were not allowed to use 2x 20 notes to pay for a family of 4.
