Without going to the doctor you won't know what is causing the trouble, and therefore you won't know the best thing to do.

Sorry for sounding negative but unless you have a diagnosis, you may be getting the wrong advice here and end up making it worse not better.

Best to go and see your doctor first.

Without going to the doctor I would say go to the doctor. Listen to LindyLoo.

Why hasn't the Ed said this yet?

He will, on that you can bet

Nothing more to say

But I did anyway

I'm a poet

Now I know it

why don't you want to go to the doctor? I really think that you should

Go to a qualified chiropractor or osteopath who specialises in such areas. You are more likely to be effectively treated for the root cause of your problem, than by a doctor who is likely to recommend painkillers, which only trat the symptoms, not the cause.

Even simpler - buy one of those curved pillows to support your neck while asleep and give the relevant muscles a chance to relax. (but still while you are waiting for the appointment!)

my friend went to a qualified chiropractor who significantly misdiagnosed her neck condition and caused further damage, despite taking x-rays.  Go to your GP and ask for an x-ray to determine what the problem is.
rose - It could be all sorts of things causing this problem. You really should visit your GP for diagnosis & any necessary treatment.
For all medical questions, we strongly advise you to seek professional advice from your doctor or a healthcare professional.  Please do not rely on, or wait for, advice from Answerbank users.

I agree with brawburd and strongly advise against a chiropractor or osteopath  as your first port of call as they both managed to increase my neck pain.

Two possibilities - stress, or general wear and tear - but any pain is the body's warning that something is wrong, so please go to your GP as soon as possible.

sue - Where the hell did rose come from? Lack of sleep I think - aplologies. Hope you soon get your neck pain sorted out soon.
