marble runs

my lad found out today he's got to have his adenoids and tonsils out....he's only 3.. he dosen't understand bless him, he does understand toys and presents however, he wants a marble run more than anything in this world...although i have my concerns about kids and marbles? you know when they taste them and swallow them? plus i have a year old daughter and the thought of stray marbles do worry me... how can i get him his dream toy for his post op surprise without nagging on about marbles??? anyone got any suggestions?

why are you bitter towards marbles are you in a bad mood? marbles is one of the oldest games in the world and many people still play it to a serious level

I bought a marble run and found it kept falling apart, make sure you dont buy the cheapest one, maybe he could keep it in his room? or have a special box where he can keep the marbles??

lol...bob im not bitter, i just worry about kids swallowing foreign objects...i have a chocking phobia..

paulsmummy I know how worrying it must be, I know my little boy would put them straight in his mouth and he is 14 months old. Maybe get him one but limit how many marbles he can use and also only allow him to play it at certain times, when you can keep an eye on your daughter. He might get sick of it soon anyway.

Hi paulsmummy, Does your son have his own room? He could keep the marble run in there, tell him as it's his 'special' toy, he should keep it for himself. Just warn him of the dangers of putting things in his mouth (other than food). Does he tend to put things in his mouth at the moment? It's awful when they're so little and have to go through something so big. My eldest daughter has had a couple of ops, and has coped far better than I did! The hardest bit was having the anaesthetic (for me not her), but I held it together til she was sleeping.
Good Luck with it, will he have to wait long?

When I was little my brother used to make me sit at the bottom of the stairs wearing a plastic policeman's hat and would roll (aggressively and with some force) marbles down an old piece of pipe from dad's shed. It amused him greatly to see the marbles bouncing off my head. Still does :(

yes agree with hellie, limit the amount of marbles, he will probably get bored of it soon enough!

smudge......weeks rather than months... he is now in a permanent state of tonsilitis,, its recurring, hes had about 9 episodes since february, makes them so ill... so i want to buy him a special present to make it all worth while...he has sleep apneoa because of it .. my daughters got to go through it too..she's worse but cos shes only one they wont touch her....she's had it 6 times since feb.... bless her...

Poor little thing, I would go ahead and buy him one. Sounds like he really deserves it. Tonsilitus is awful and if you can look on the bright side at the moment, at least he won't have it anymore after the op. I bet he'll be so thrilled with it, he'll be too busy playing and having fun with the marble run, to think about eating any of it. ( I do understand your concerns though)

thnx smudge... i was chatting to the doctor today, and got a bit tearful.. he was like "what u crying for" you want him better dont you....... i thought he was a bit cold..... thank god for the nurses... its them that add that bit of tlc innit?

my son was 4 when he had that op .he use to suffer so much with his tonsils ...hope it goes ok for him xx
