does anyone know if there is a way to test a video camera battery

You can check to see if it's charged using a multimeter, if this is what you mean. Most camcorder batteries are 3.6V to 9V.

good answer battery at fault many thanks
if its a rechargeable and you store it for a while even though charged it will discharge naturally the best thing to do is charge it and use it, if its loosing its charge quikly then or not lasting as long as expected then it is faulty.

the multimeter will only tell you the voltage but not the amperage, the voltage will go down a bit when discharged but thats natural
