Thanx everyone have checked all answers and none are right. This has got me really stumped.
Moody Blues?
My guess is Cockney Rebel as they were mostly session musicians.
I worked in a record shop from 1972 to 1978 and so i should know this but it ain;t registering, what waqs Mick Ronsons band was that Iggy Pop? Moyy The Hoople were pretty cult ish
sorry, Mott The Hoople
The Faces?
I'd have guessed the Faces too, but Ron Wood era Stones have never had a UK no.1, nor the Who with Kenny Jones
Deep Purple could be the answer. Various members went on to form, or be part of; Gillan,Rainbow,Whitesnake,Black Sabbath,KLF and numerous other groups.
I think the following members of Cockney Rebel played on these UK #1 singles which may be the right answer.
Duncan Mackay played on 'Dreadlock Holiday' by 10cc.
Stuart Eliott (& Duncan Mackay) played on 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.
Jim Cregan played on 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' by Rod Stewart.
