Are there any alternative remedies for PCOS?  I've tried a few different brands of the pill which didn't agree with me, so I'd like to try an alternative treatment.  The acne and excessive hair are my main concerns.

Thanks

There are herbal remedies but you shouldn't take them unless you have consulted a reputable registered herbalist. Before you do, try reading the PCOS diet book, there is also another book in the series about PCOS by Collette Harris (same author). Both books offer advice about combating PCOS with diet and other methods, as well as herbal remedies and more traditional standard medical options.

If you are in the UK, you could contact Verity, which is a self help organisation for PCOS sufferers and their families.

Hi MaxD.  My Doc has me on Dianette - contraceptive pill, supposed to be good for acne. Spironolactone ,which is a diuretic and is an anti androgen, so quite good for the hair as it blocks to some extent (loose some weight as well because it gets rid of lots of excess water from your body) and also a pill called finasteride which i take off license as it is intended for men with prostate cancer(!!!) it is *excellent* for hirsutism and after many depressing hairy years i'm almost normal just after 6 months of taking it.  You may have some trouble convincing your GP to give you this though because it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that you dont become pregnant whilst taking it as it can seriously damage the feotus. Good luck
