I have a Hotpoint Aquarias washer /drier which trips the 13Amp MSB when it completes the washing cycle and switches off. the microcircuit breaker cannot be reset until the machine has been unplugged, is this fault with the machine or the mains switch gear?

Faulty washer/dryer. If MSB is switching off, the machine is drawing too much current.

The fault is most probably with the machine. It is unusual to do this at the end of the cycle, as not much happens at the end of the cycle (obviously!) Perhaps it is something to do with the door lock, as this disengages a few minutes after the machine ends. Unless of course it trips during the final spin when the machine is at tits fastest, and you think the machine finished?
