my partener has been advised by her specialist that due to her low immune system she will need blood transfusions,at first this will be done in hospital but then at home by trained family members,we would be grateful for any advice / feedback regarding side affects & success of this procedure.

The specialists at the hospital will train all family members concerned in how to do the transfusions at home. The most important thing to be aware of is the process must be done in a clean and sterile manner. Hands must be washed thoroughly and then gloves worn. Obviously she must avoid any person who has any sort of infection(colds, flu etc). I'm not sure about side effects but the hospital will explain everything to you and you can always ring the nurse at the GP practice for advice at any time.It will take a bit of getting used to for her as well as the family members who are giving the transfusions but i'm sure you will all cope with it. Good luck with it all.
