My neighbour told me she let her 8yr old daughter stay up and watch White Noise 2 - The light the other night. I have just watched it and I can't believe any mother would allow an eight year old daughter watch something like that.- Has anyone seen it and would anyone let their children watch it or similar? If so, do you think being exposed to paranormal/horror films/TV etc at such a young age has any affect on children in later life?

i've always found it strange that the majority of people seem to insist that horror films and the like will have an effect later in life, children are able to separate reality from fiction and while some may find a drama scary at the time i think very few will not be able to exert their intelligence and realise that this is just a story.

Whereas children are often encouraged to watch the news and current event programmes that will often feature the dead, dying and suffering around the globe caused by real people and real events but few try to limit childrens access to this form of "horror".

I do not let my daughter watch the News or any soap such as Coronation St, Eastender, The Bill, but as I said I am probably too protective. I don't know enough to be able argue the point successfully that it does affect children, but surly it just can't be right to expose them to horror, violence and disturbing films, why else would there be movie age restrictions/guidance etc?
