How deep are the roots of a full grown sycamore tree?

this is a little like asking "How tall is a full grown person" the answer to which of course veries quite a lot.

It depends on the tree and the ground to which it is planted

the greatest ever reported depth of a wild fig tree (sycamore family) is over 400 feet in south africa

I understand that in england at least. a fair rule of thumb is as deep as the tree is tall and as wide as the tree is wide, allowing that the earth goues down that far and the roots don't hit bedrock. Oaks and pines for instance have shallower, wider root structures

You don't give the reason for this question but this is quite a helpful guide of how far various trees should be from any buildings.

They won't go all that far down, perhaps six to eight feet in most soils. The strength is all in the lateral roots
