I've finished the crossword but can anyone explain the clue for 22 across, ie "Fox, being fastened, died ---". The answer seems to be Tod (a fox) and the final d could be "died" but where does "being fastened" come in?

According to Chambers dictionary, one of the definitions of "to" is:

in or into a required or fixed position, contact, closed or fastened condition.

Many thanks, Tichfield. I had tried looking at different definitions of "to" but the dictionary I looked at doesn't incude this definition.
