normally says something about virtual memory i think

it says something about dumping physical memory, on the start up screen the log gives a a long numerical code
I hope you meant 1 gig not 1 meg. As previously stated we need to know what if any errors you are getting. Such as "windows has encountered an error and needs to close". Some errors such as the one above, may be a sign of a hard drive on its way out.
usually the dumping physical memory error is at the bottom of the screen. I have had that before and the error at the top said that "windows has encountered a serious error and needs to close" or something like that I dont quite remember. Anyway it was a faulty hard drive.

yea peanut it says the windows has encountered a serious problem message along with check for adequate disk space and if there is a driver named in the stop message (which there isnt) check for updates, the next paragraph says something about checking for a bios update. is this what ure after?
Sorry, it's been a little while since i've been through this. I really can't remember everything that was on the screen when this problem came up for me.
