Can i claim???

Wondered if anybody could advice me if i`m able to claim back money i`ve spent on a property???
Its a property that me and my ex partner (who i split up with just before xmas) that belonged to her father. I completely gutted the place and spent an absolute fortune on it out of my own inheritance money and literally walked away with nothing. I`ve got the majority of bills etc with proof that the payments was made my family and not by my ex. I didn`t want to go down this route but i`ve thought long and hard about it and to put just short of 20k into a place and get nothing out of it is making me determined to re-coup some of my money.

Were you living in the property as a couple?
What was the intention? Can she claim you were helping her out and it was all intended as gifts?
You need to able to show that you have a beneficial interest in the property - that you spent the time and money on it as it was intended that when restored it would be sold and you would take a share of the profits; or that you and she would live in it as a couple and you viewed it as your home.
If you can prove such an interest then you will be entitled to your money (and maybe a share of the equity - a profit).

If your girlfriend won't accept that you have invested money in the property and have an entitlement to recoup it, you need a solicitor. It's not going to be easy.
Go prepared. Make a note of relevant dates and facts for easy reference including dates you moved in, your inheritance - everything that the solicitor may need to know.
Collate all your receipts and total them up. Don't take the receipts - just a quick note.
