It does not sound like hedgehogs to me, as they dont usually burrow, they usually build a nest if twiggs and leaves, somewhere dry like under a hedge or maybe under a shed.
It does however sound more like rats but I would recomend getting a proffesinal pest controller in to take a look. Good luck Tbird+
I concur 100% with Tbird+, Hedgehogs don't burrow, and Tbird+, good to see you back, I was getting worried.
It could possibly be moles. Do you have large mounds of earth ? We have the same problem all over our lawn. If so.... they are not harmfull but they are a nuisance and they have wrecked my entire garden....Good luck
