Can anyone help with the origin of the place name "Compton"?

We have Compton Martin, Compton Bassett, Compton Dando, Lower Compton in Somerset and Wiltshire, but who/what was Compton?

Farmstead (OE tun) in the valley (OE cumb).

A name following Compton would tend to signify the owner.

e.g. Compton Dando - owned by the de Auno or Dauno family in the manor in the 12th Century.

We have quite a few in Warwickshire as well like Compton Verney.
