P&J has been banned by Bodmin Council as it promotes domestic violence. Unwanted censorship or good safety measure that should be copied by other councils? I agree with the former. I don't think anyone has proven a link between P&J and spousal abuse, or even offered any evidence to suggest it. I watched P&J as a child without turning violent later on and I think the vast majority of children would be similarly unaffected.

I think it's censorship gone mad.  What a sad state of affairs!
Totally stupid in my opinion. When I was a kid we all had toy guns, I haven't grown up wanting to shoot people. Next they'll ban Santa Claus in case some kid tries to burgle a house down the chimney. And how about Dorothy, the Tin Man and the lion? That's always sounded a bit perverted to me
Yeah - and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. What was going on there?
Indicative of the fact that to me, we are taking less and less responsibility for our own lives. PC is a form of scapegoat for this.

Does anybody actually remember what the story of Punch and Judy was?  It must be fairly boring otherwise it would be more familiar.  I reckon that it is only allowed because it has existed for 300 years; if it were a contemporary story it would not have been written.  (a bit like tobacco, I suppose)

Is it just coincidence that the increase in PC activity is directly proportional to rises in crime? I would not be at all surprised if all this inane stupidity actually has the opposite effect to what it is supposed to.
I think punch &judy should go to relate!!  http://tinyurl.com/6or5kh
link does not work!
I guess, to use a phrase that I thought might have been made up for the "Doc Martin" TV show, they've "gone a bit Bodmin"!
P&J has been banned for decades so why get het up about it now?
Incidentally, there is no such thing as Bodmin Council.  Bodmin is in the North District Council area.  WVNBIVDB
I saw P&J many times in my childhood and I'm not violent.  My crocodile does eat a lot of sausages though!
The ironic thing is that the people who banned P&J consider themselves liberal. Actually, they are illiberal. They are censors, moral crusaders and enemies of free thought who consider themselves better educated, better enlightened and just, well, better, than the rest of us.
Quite true bernardo, being "sent to Bodmin" also has connotations of being slightly mad thanks to Bodmin once being the home to  a large mental hodpital, perhaps it should be reopened for the councillors?
