I'm going to have about 34 weeks to spend working/travelling between Australia and New Zealand. Any suggestions of how best to split up the time? I've never been to either country. I will be able to be divemaster/instructor, so I was thinking at least 17 weeks in Oz, but was wondering if I should plan for more time. Thanks!

NZ is more compact - through strung out with few roads - so you can probably see more there in less time. Australia is huge; apart from Alice and Uluru, most of what you will want to see is probably around the edge. It really depends exactly what you want to see. As IaP says, check out the visa situation.
