Does anyone know the political sympathies of the former military chiefs that have been so critical of the government this week?

tories without a doubt, sat on their fat pensions!! dreaming up these stories, whilst eating their 850 lunch with their french bum chums.
What difference does it make? It's about time someone came forward with the truth. They should be provided with the best equipment available whilst putting their lives on the line for Blair's errors of judgement.
Next you'll be asking about those who question the Government's abilities concerning the lost discs!
Tories to a man,I'll bet !
Dassie-They started by saying that we don't have the best equipment and when this was shown to be wrong they switched to 'Well yes but we're not properly trained for it''.
When they switch their argument -Don't trust 'em.
If we get out of Iraq by next Spring and reduce our forces in Afghanistan that should allow the budget to go further. Only the Tories would oppose this so don't vote them in again. Now that Australia has chosen a Labour PM and booted out Howard who was for the Iraq war maybe we can leave these skirmishes to the major powers who can easily afford it.
brionon......wasn't it just the other week it was revealed that the detection equipment needed on the patrol vehicles was not fitted to the army vehicles which resulted in a death? Anyway as the saying goes "where there's smoke there's fire"

kwicky....Isn't it the Labour Govt. that took us to war in the first place so why worry about the Tories !
The two main critics, Lord Boyce and Lord Guthrie are both cross bench in the House of Lords, meaning they are not affiliated to the Tories or Labour. Their biographies make interesting reading

if the lavatories were in power at the time of the invasion of iraq we'd have still gone to war
Quite right Dassie but Blair was a right leaning latent Tory war monger where Brown is trying to put the actions into reverse.
I think Brown's Govt is currently putting the whole of the UK into reverse !
lord boyce, lord guthrie!! the sooner this country becomes a republic, the better
Sambro is right, I'm sure, but that doesn't excuse Labour. If Brown can't be bothered making resources available to our troops because he doesn't have the money (and doesn't think we would stand for having taxes raised to cover it), then he has an alternative: pull them out.

As for the political sympathies: well, whether they're actual Tories or not, I never heard of a socialist admiral. But they're in the Lords for their expertise rather than their politics, and they're supposed to use that expertise to speak on issues like this. None of which means that they are necessarily correct, though.
sorry, I was referring to Sambro's earlier post there.
