Going back to the original question, it's possible that the other papers have clocked the Leona Lewis link (unintended alliteration) is a bit tenuous.
They weren't the close mates the Daily Mail has tried to indicate. I think another paper picked up on it over the weekend too, but they haven't followed up either.

sp1814, Well I must be missing something, nowhere in Lucy Thomas's answer can I read that there is any mention of her blaming the goverment for the way our kid's are brought up.
Gromit what an excellent link, makes for some very interesting reading, especially the reader's views. It is a pity the majority of posters on this site don't sing from the same hym sheet.

To revert back to the problem of lawlessness. As Lucy Thomas said the only way this goverment deals with a problem is to throw more money at it. This is quite true but she missed the other method they use, and that is to introduce further Laws, without the means of enforcing them.
What we need in this country is all these three, Harsher laws, Many,many more police on the streets, and then the money to pay for these extra full time police officers.
If they must use voluntary and part time poorly payed officers, then let these be desk bound to shuffle the paperwork etc. This will release more highly trained officers to patrol the streets.
Let us get back to the days when one could not walk down the street, day or night without seeing one or more police officers.

Anyway, successive governments have fumbled this one...and you know what? It's got bog all to do with the numer of police on the street. You need to tackle these problems at source. By the time people are shouting for more police, we've lost.
What's the point of having more police? We should have less criminals...isn't that what we should be working towards.
And how do you achieve that?
Now, that's where it gets horribly complicated...because you have to start thinking about tackling bad parenting, bad schools, bad housing...the list is endless.
You'd have to change an entire nation. No government could do that.

If you had group of people who were all relatively healthy would you warn them of the dangers of smoking, unprotected sex (etc) or wait for them to get lung cancer and a bunch of STDs before treating them?
Prevention is better than cure.
Sure - zero tolerance will rid the streets of the current batch of crims, but what about the next generation, and the one after that?
If we don't tackle the root cause, we only store up grief for later.
