I have a crown victoria LTD 1990 5.0 liter V8 and it has a problem when you turn the ignition the starter will turn on but the motor won't what is the problem?

not sure of the type of car or question. do you mean the ignition lights up but the starter motor wont turn the engine over?

A defective solenoid. If the starter motor is turning, but not turning the engine. This is the part which engages the starter motor with the flywheel. You may or may not be able to replace it as a separate part to the starter motor itself. It may be sticking, in which case a sharp tap may free it up. Could be wear. Depends if it happening all the time or intermittently.
