Does anyone know if there is a product available to repair a victorian cast iron soil pipe ? like a compound or chemical banding ?- It has mild corrosion above ground and is weeping when the toilet is flushed. Unfortunately it sinks below into concrete so we don't want to remove and replace the whole pipe unless we really have to.

as a temporary measure you could try fibreglass as bought in a car body repair kit!!
I've used this http://www.directa.co.uk/site/scripts/product_ browse.php?product_id=1800
on cast iron pipes. It's not very pretty, but it works.
The tape suggested is probably very good at preventing liquids getting into the pipe but would not prevent the pipe leaking. If it is weeping I am afraid it's had it.

Fiberglass as RATTER15 said is only temporary but would work better than the tape.

We had this problem several years ago where we used to live. The only real solution is to remove it completely which involves digging it out the ground and replacing with a plastic soil pipe. Not as horrific as it sounds, adapters are readily available to connect the new pipe to the sewer and to the existing toilet pans.
As far as I remember in our three storey house the job was done by two men in one day. The longest part was waiting for the new concrete to dry.

Good luck.
Try Flash Band comes in various widths lead coloured, wrap it tight round the pipe gently warm it with hot air paint blower smooth it with the backing paper not very pretty but should last years HTH Tez
The DENSO tape will work ; used it countless times myself. But you have to make sure you wire brush the area to be repaired and wiped down with white spirt also make sure it is really bone dry before you apply it. So get the hair drier out to make sure, if done propely it will be a very long term repair lasting many years. It is however very messy sticky stuff so wear some latex gloves as it is a nightmare to get off you're hands as it is waterproof !!!
See the products here.
