I thought the final of Countdown was last week when a young guy won it - and was presented with all the dictionaries, trophy etc?? But this week it is on again and today a guy won for his 8th time and Des was saying 'I reckon you could get to the final and win' - EH??!! Please can someone explain what's going on!

When they reached the knockout phase in the previous series, he'd won five games, so he was still the defending daily champion. So he picked up where he left off at the start of the new series on Monday. Simple!

So....the new series starts straight away without a break? Blimey! There must be 2 or 3 champs a year at that rate!

Yes, they usually crown two champions each year, in June and December. They stopped having breaks between series in 1996, and switched from three month to six month series in 1998.
