Anyone know how I can freshen up the inside of my washing machine as there is a drain smell. Have put soda crystals through it on a hot wash twice but still smells.

Have you cleaned out the filter recently?

It's usually behind a flap at the bottom of the front panel.

I know what you mean but on our machine (Hotpoint about 5 years old) there is no filter flap on the front or the sides so if anyone knows if there is one on the back that would be apprieciated before I drag it out to check. :0)
Try putting a pint of white vinegar in the drum and run a hot wash. That usually gets rid of smells. When you do your first wash afterwards the clothes won't smell of vinegar I promise. I have done this myself.

I also put white vinegar in the washing machine drawer if I want to freshen up slightly more smelly clothes like gym stuff.

:o)
I had this problem some time ago it turned out to be the wast pipe smelling a lot of rubbish collects there??
Both my sister and I are also having the same problem as you with our Hotpoint washing machines. Is yours an intergrated model BWM129 ? We have never come across this problem before as we have always had free standing models and wondered if it could be a fault with this particular model.
Look around the door seal. I had the same problem with my machine smelling, so after putting bleach through the machine on a 90 degree wash and getting no luck, I checked the door seal. It was covered in what looked like rust from leaving pennies in pockets. I used bleach to wipe it off and now the smell has gone! Give it a try!!
