think what the others are trying to say is to put the question under motoring as this is for animals and nature. however, you do not have to have your car insured if you are not using it, but if it is stolen from your drive, you will obviously lose your money. If you are not taxing it, you will need to complete a SORN declaration too.
Have a look in the motoring bit, might be a bit more info in there. I would say that yes you do still ahve to have it insured. Although you could take out a part cover not a full.

if it is kept on the road you will need to tax it also. I have had my sons car on the drive for five years while he has been at uni. untaxed and uninsured - we have just taken the battery out so no-one can pinch it, as third party fire and theft insurance is almost as much as fully comp.
