Why do some people who have found religion continually quote the bible? Do they think it authenticates their belief, or do they quote other people's words because they feel their own won't stand up to scrutiny?

Hello Brenda, I'm happy. Are you happy? And are your posts serious?
Brenda...shouldnt you be a PROPHETESS?
Well there goes my image of a fat balding middle aged man who stands on street corners, Bible in hand, yelling to everyone that Jesus saves.
Never mind, Brenda. You'll grow up I expect.

Brenda, are you going to speak to us in intelligible language now - or are you going to continue to rant?
I expect Brenda was brought up in a religious household.
Or could it be Brenda was not brought up in a religious household. That was a bit of a leap from The Prophet(ess) to your first name. Most of us are not even that familiar with one another but we do indulge in conversation that I think does give of each others personalities and in turn become friendly toward one another.
Your beliefs are still, your beliefs but please could you do us all a favour and stop preaching.
Your personal contribution will be respected .
I'm sure even Jesus or Moses spoke in a normal fashion when they were not on their preachy pedestal.
(That's if they were real people) .
I reckon people quote the bible, chapter and verse for a number of reasons. It may be learned behaviour from home or church - ie. perhaps everybody does it there. It may be that they use Bible texts in an almost superstitious fashion - believing the words will have some magical effect. There's sometimes a bit of arrogance by some who can quote Bible and verse because it shows they know the Bible and that they've learned vast chunks. I can't remember items on my shopping list, let alone a vast number of verses in the Bible. There are a number of people who quote Bible and verse in order to convert people. I find it quite dreary really. Regarding my own faith, I'd rather live out my beliefs in a positive and realistic way - embodying various teachings from the Bible and otherwise. I certainly don't like the idea of regarding every person as a potential convert. I'd rather accept people as they are. It's all about living and learning from each other rather than trying to bash people with bible quotes.
