Personally I would avoid it like the plague, it slows most PC's significantly,is a real pain to remove completely and is expensive.
i stopped using it in 2004 when my PC was doing strange things , after uninstalling the (paid for) Norton software and using (free) Avast antivrius 7 viruses were found.

I would recommend Avast from Alwil software fre for personal use or you can purchase the professional edition I have used it for 3 years with no problems.

download here http://www.avast.com/

If you want other better Antiviruses there are AVG,Mcafee, bitdefender,NOD 32, and PC cillin

Most aren't free just Avast and AVG go with Avast you'll like it
Yes, agree with Fiesata,I have used avg free for years now with no problems. I to ditched norton as it was to resource hungry & expensive.Having said that I believe there new version is back to basics, but still costs.....!
I've been running Nortons since I got the computer and have never had any trouble with it except reaching into my wallet each year.
It will slow the computer down a bit, but if you have installed it from the start you wouldn't know the difference anyway, would you ?

I have been running norton ever since I got this computer but just lately I have been having trouble starting up and it has definitely got slower although I haven't got a virus according to norton I wondered if it could be and norton hasn't picked it up
I'm with the pro-AVAST crowd. I have seen a few cases were people have stopped using their computers because Norten has slowed it down so much. There is a removal tool on the symantec site to get rid of it.
Personally, of the free ones I recommend AVG which scores consistently (though only slightly) higher than Avast.

The absolute creme de la creme of paid-for AV is Eset NOD32, which has a minute footprint, no detectable performance hit, is completely unobtrusive, and gets top marks in just about every test.

As for Norton, some viruses do less damage to you system than this piece of cr*p.
i spent a couple of hours on the phone helping my sister uninstall norton and replace it with avg free. she noticed an improvement in speed instantly.
agree with all on here about avg its the best
changed from norton to avg when my renewal was due .removing norton was no problem but since installing avg i have noticed a significant slowing down ...found norton to be much better
