Sorry such a long post. Thanks in advance - I've spent the last few nights on the phone to Norton support (usually on hold for first 20 minutes!) trying to successfully install Norton 2013 on two laptops.
I've used Norton for several years, each time finding it cheaper to buy the disc from Amazon, rather than renewing online.
I popped the disc into my laptop but after an initial "whirring" nothing displayed or loaded. I rang Norton and the adviser was very helpful, and after taking control of my PC downloaded Norton and using my product key successfully installed it. She explained that the disc should be ok, so the next night I put it in the second laptop, but no joy.
I rang Norton again and initially the advisor was helpful and after a period of time on the phone we switched to live chat, but although the connection remained he simply disappeared and did not answer my posts. He'd said that a programme called "Rapport" used to safeguard internet banking (I think( was conflicting with Norton, so removed Rapport. Watching the screen I could see him clicking on various things and removing them - no idea what - I'd put my trust in him!
After he'd finished I discovered he had installed a 30 day trial of Norton 360 and not the full year of the Norton I had bought. The next morning when my partner switched the PC on, Norton 360 and the desk top icon were present, but later, and I've no idea how, it had been removed. Could the advisor have removed it remotely having realised he'd installed the wrong version? Either way the PC now had no protection. Norton was not visible on the Task Bar but when clicking "Programmes" it was there but said "empty".
I rang Norton again that night and explained what had happened. The advisor did various things remotely, and we kept in touch via Live Chat and at some point he asked me to load the disc to install Norton, which appeared to work fine. He'd taken my home phone number and promised to ring me back to ensure all was ok, but he didn't make contact and like the first advisor, he "disappeared". Norton seemed to have installed ok, but some of my desk top icons had changed appearance, and when clicking on "All Programmes" there was next to nothing there. Also "Gadget bar" had now disappeared from the screen.
I rang Norton the following night to ask for help in getting the missing programmes back. The female advisor was very understanding and after checking everything decided the best thing to do was a System Restore, to take the PC back to a time before all this happened. She also took my phone number because the restore would take some time to do. It was close to midnight, but I was determined to get it sorted, so I watched and waited for system restore to finish, and when it did assumed the advisor would, as promised ring me back. Wrong! No call. The good news was that all programmes were back, the desk top icons returned to their original appearance, and Gadget Bar was back. All I needed to do now was install Norton!! I loaded the disc, went through the motions and Norton installed ok. However, after doing this, my PC was back to how it was before the system Restore = Gadget bar gone, list of All programmes gone and so on. It's as if the Norton disc or the software is corrupting my PC. Any advice before I ring Norton again is appreciated. Sorry such a long post, but felt needed to give full picture.

sorry, can't help but i've been running rapport and norton without any problems
I've also had problems with Norton and finished up totally confused. It would be lot better if it was possible to send them a normal email instead of 'chat' and phone calls. I was told my suscription had expired (which I doubted) so bought, downloaded and installed a new one. My laptop which had shared the same previous installation indicated 307 days left to run! When my latest subscription expires that will be the end as I am concerned.
