Hiya,
I'm seventeen and not yet passed my test, and I was wondering if it is possible to get insurance for my parents car. If it is a stupid question then I apologise, but it made sense when I was thinking about it earlier.
Thanks,
Fiona

yes,if they agreed, you could be put on their insurance, and you could learn to drive that way,but i do think you should have 8/10 proper lessons first, that is the best way.

I've jad about twenty lessons, but by going online, I can't find a company that will let me join them! :-( ! And the company my parents are already with won't let anyone under the age on nineteen join the policy! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
I'm sorry but you wont get insurance as :-

1 The family car belongs to your parents. You need to own the car to insure it in your name.

2 The insurance prohibit use by under 19's

You will have to be patient and start saving for your own car
firstly ignore pauln90's answer, its wrong.

With your parents approval and subject to terms and conditions of their insurance policy you CAN be added to the insurance.

Also you don't have to own a car before you can get insurance, if you have a friend or relative that owns a car, with their consent you can be added to their insurance, again subject to terms and conditions of policy.

You shouldn't have to much trouble providing the car is not high performance, a little ford fiesta/corsa or punto are generally cheaper to insure for young drivers including provisional drivers. Btw I work in insurance so I know what Im saying here is correct.
Jesterman I stand by my advice

1 Fiona states her parents car insurance precludes drivers under 19 and she is 17 so no cover there.

2 I said she was unable to get insurance in her own right on her parents car as she does not own it, I didn't say she couldn't drive it if the insurance rules allowed it.
