i was caught driving alone on a provisional licence...will my insurance company be informed??

You are lucky you were caught - you are not insured in these circumstances and if you had an accident it could have been expensive for you and others.

It is your duty to inform your insurance company of any points or motoring convictions, except for parking fixed penalties. If you don't, your insurance may well be void and invalid - you will not be insured.

Plus, if your insurance is invalid you can have your car seized & crushed
