I'm 31 now, so anyone who is a similar age may remember.
When I was in nursery and maybe even the 1st year of primary school, we used to read a series of books. All I can remember is there were 2 children in them, think they were brother and sister. They both had black hair with a dead straight fringe, the girl had pig-tails. They were not real pictures, just animation.
Please help me.

The books were the Janet and John readers which built up children's ability to read by increasing the difficulty as the series went on. A memorable couple of lines from one of the early books were "This is Janet" and on the next page "This is John" both with suitable pictures.
That's possibly right ^^^^, but my immediate thought was Topsy & Tim

Yeah sounds like Topsy and Tim to me. I think janet and John were more American

Thanks for all your answers. It was Topsy and Tim. You're all great, it was really bugging me, thank you again.
I read Janet and John at primary school in the 1960s. They certainly didn't have dark hair straight fringes, and they weren't very American, either. In fact, they were frightfully English.

I dispute the claim that Janet & John were more American...

You still get Topsy and Tim books. I've got Topsy and Tim 'go on an aeroplane' and ' learn to swim' ( for the children, not myself)
Anyone remember Dick and Dora in the early 1960s?
We did Janet and John and I thought they were from Belfast! Lol
Nah they were English, in that dreadful stereotypical Famous Five sort of way.
I remember Dick and Dora they had a dog and cat called Nipand Fluff.
