Well, according to my Guinness Book of British Hit Singles, it was Billy Swan in December 1974, reaching number 6.

Elvis Presley also did a version, but it was Swan who had the bigger hit.

Billy Swan's version was one of the first singles I bought. I became a punk shortly afterwards.
