To cut or not to cut?

I've got curly hair that's a cross between waves, curls and ringlets, and I'm debating whether or not to have it cut. I had it cut last year with layers that were quite long, but I'd like shorter layers put in. My dilemma is that I'm unsure whether to do it or not, because I'm afraid that my hair will spring up in all directions - it springs up if it isn't very long because there's no weight holding it down. I'm also 15, so it'd be a nightmare at school if it went wrong. Suggestions please?

I have hair just like that and usually wear it in a longish above the shoulder bob.
Got shorter layers about 6 months ago and my advice to you is don't do it! Big mistake on my part. It's just about growing out now.
My hair is very thick and with the volume added by the curls and the schtoopid layers it went a bit affro like on the top. You need the hair longer on the top to weigh down the hair underneath - If you see what I mean?
i have very thick hair, thick hair that has a mind of it's own and likes to not curl or ringlet - that likes to get awful waves in! ugh. i'm forever straightening it.

when i go the hairdressers now i always ask for it thinned out and she really takes alot off i also ask for very short layers put it - i know it goes against what you'd think but it honest to god does make my hair easier to handle and it keeps straight for longer than it did when it was long - i hate when my layers are growing out because the ends just don't lie straight at all.

i say just go for it - go for a change and if it is honestly that bad then there's straightners you can carry around in your bag, there are plenty or hair serums you can use too.
