I just bought a 2nd for fiesta lx M reg 1995. It came with a red chip key and I had a black copy made. However, the black copy from day one could only open doors but now even the red master will not turn into the ignition. Does someone know what is the problem?

The red chip is for the immobilser if fitted - the black copy is the valet key which will only open door and doesn't have a chip, or if it does it is not programmed.
Does the valet key turn in the ignition ? If it does turn I would hazard a guess the master key is at fault and you'll have to get a new one and be programmed, usually done by Ford at a cost of about 80-100.
If it doesn't turn I would guess the barrel on the ignition switch is knackered ad will have to be repaired/replaced.
I'm not sure if certain locksmiths have the capability to cut and program Ford keys - maybe someone else has an idea.
What you can do as a cheap solution is - if the valet key will operate the ignition then take the cowling off the steering column and tape or glue the red key in there so that the transponder is allowing the car to start with the valet key. Put cowling back on an get another valet key cut ( 5.00 ). Hey presto Fanny's yer aunite !

The valet does not work, unfortunately, it only opens the doors. the master key also won't start the car either. It won't even turn into the ignition, it is very hard when you try to switch on. thanks to you all. bettym
