Where can I find info on the rumours which were around in the 60's that Paul McCartney had died, and that clues on album sleeves suggested it was true ?
The two main symbols of McCartney's premature death on album sleeves are supposed to be his lack of shoes on the cover of Abbey Road and that the floral display on Sergeant Pepper that is meant to spell PAUL (it is in fact a guitar) One of the closing shord sequences on the album is also supposed to say "Paul is dead" if played backwards!
another myth was that on the Sgt Pepper's cover or a photo shoot of the time (can't remember which) it appeared that there was a hand above Paul's head which is supposed to signify death in some cultures.
Thanks guys,
Einstein, I'll check out that book you mentioned, it might be naff but I'm intrigued by the whole thing ! Proper Urban Legend stuff ! Cheers.
If it's urban legends info you want, the best site in the world is 'Snopes' - here's the link to a page which contains the Paul is Dead hullaballoo - http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden
Just a brief fotnote to Einstein's original answer concerning the Beetle with the 28 IF number plate - apparently it belonged to someone who worked in the area, and was parked in that particular spot on most days - its feature in the cover shot is purely coincidence, with no hidden messages intended.
I have a book, Paul is Dead. It is packed up so
I can't look up the ISBN number but it was very interesting with lots of details discussed. Hope you find a copy
Fuel was added to this fire by the fact that, on the back cover of the sgt pepper album, "paul" is actually facing away from the camera, tho' the other beetles are facing it. Keen eyed fans noticed the height and build were wrong - and they were right - it wasn't him but a studio engineer "filling in". It was due to logistic problems at the photo shoot - namely PMcC not actually being there, but not dead!
Allegedly.....
I don't think hes dead but it was a mere joke or symbolism to something else. I have also noticed on my own that very blatently and obviously at the end of the song 'strawberry feilds forever' you hear a deep voice that seems to be slowed down saying "I burried Paul." Pretty freaky huh?
