Steak and mushroom pie for 6

I have some of my family coming next week for dinner and I thought I would make steak,onion and mushroom pie.As I do not have a dish big enough to make enough for six I was going to bake two pies.Is it really cheating if I were to cook all the filling in one casserole and just cook the pastry "tops"separately?

Hardy I think that is a great idea - could you also use puff pastry from the supermarket to make the tops? That would make it MUCH easier:)

That was my intention - too much hassle to make puff pastry !
