I think the full saying is from "Two shakes of a ducks tail" or "Ducks ditty" but I dont know where that comes from !!

But thats the best I can do!
'A couple of shakes of a lamb's tail' is, in fact, much more commonly heard. Lambs' tails are constantly flicking about, so it doesn't take very long for two of them to happen...ie it just means very quickly.
If you see them with the salt and pepper this may be an attempt to spice up the conversation.
