for leaders of hamas in gaza and for two members of israel's government on the suspicion that they have committef war crimes

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cw4490z75v3o

both sides have naturally claimed that only the other should be prosecuted

the ICC prosecutor said:

"No foot soldier, no commander, no civilian leader - no one - can act with impunity." The law, he says, cannot be applied selectively.  If that happens, "we will be creating conditions for its collapse"."

an excellent and principled statement that is very difficult to disagree with. is there hope for the rules-based order yet?

i have just checked and there are actually no Site Rules against being "insulting". i was going to ask the editor what counts but the rules specify "name-calling, harassment, or abuse"

Khandro, I did not say Melanie Phillips was Jewish (although she is) and I did not say she was necessarily wrong. I pointed out that it was a Comment piece, which as I am sure you are aware reflects the views of the writer and not always the editorial viewpoint of the newspaper.

As it happens, I do have reservations about the views adopted by the lady, partly prompted by her support in the past for Andrew Wakefield's anti MMR vaccine campaign, but that is a different matter.

perseverer: Mellanie Phillips writes & has written for just about every respected journal imaginable. The Times, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Spectator, The Daily mail -- the list goes on and on and  she has won several prizes for her journalism. Yes, she's Jewish & quite openly so and also  writes for Jewish papers, - why should she not?

Her religion has nothing whatsoever to with the veracity of her article quoted above from The Times, and your suggestion that it does, sounds more than slightly anti-Semitic to me.

melanie phillips is an israeli propagandist. she has made those same claims before and they are unfortunately without evidence.

If I was sensitive, I'd find being called a commie, clown, leftie, virtue-signaller, sanctimonious and so on quite insulting, but I've never reported it because such terms seem to be tolerated.

This is a funny old place.

untitled; From your article;

"Mr Flynn said he had watched raw video footage of the scenes on 7 October, when Hamas attacked southern Israel killing around 1,200 people and seizing 253 hostages. But he added that he was able to differentiate between the horrors that occurred that day and Israel’s “unjustified response” and he hoped one day Phillips would be able to do this, too."

Good grief !!   What would he say was a justified response ?  and why should M.P. not give firm response to that rubbish?

her claims about food supplies entering gaza are unevidenced khandro. so are her claims about hamas attacking food shipments.

we do actually know for sure that israel has bombed aid workers (you may remember because your response was to ask what they were doing there) and we do also know that israeli protestors have blocked aid from entering gaza

Khandro, it seems to me that first of all you did not actually read what I wrote and secondly that you subscribe to the belief that anyone who criticises the actions of Israel is anti Semitic, even when the criticism is merited.

All started by the Hamas terrorist bastrads on 7th October last year. Why the hell did the bastrads not stay in their tunnels under hospitals and schools that day?

untitled : // her claims about food supplies entering gaza are unevidenced khandro. so are her claims about hamas attacking food shipments. //

Good grief !(again) I have seen that time and again with my own eyes, there is plenty of filmed evidence of those food convoys being swarmed by young men.

KHANDRO, is evidence of convoys being swarmed by young men evidence of Hamas attacks on the convoys?

i have just checked and there are actually no Site Rules against being "insulting"

isnt there a rule that says - "a rule is what I say it is: from day to day" ? well there should be, that'll solve it.

I read the Mel Ph article - and yes she can sell her prose. It is a journo ( hackette) about a legal opinion, and does badly. She doesnt like it. She  doesnt like it a bit more. She doesnt like the way he puts his evidence - nor its quality whilst making it clear she doesnt know how to assess evidence. Dont buy to read it. Did my Finklestein post survive the onslaught?

I liiiiike your  mind ( Klute to a jarn 1967)

I liiiiike the deletions ( on this thread)

secondly that you subscribe to the belief that anyone who criticises the actions of Israel is anti Semitic, even when the criticism is merited.

yes.

it is never merited. god where have you been for the last year or so?

Oh back to Mel Ph. Hamas have been overblowing their figures. 34 000 far too many. Statistically proven impossible - not more than 27 000. Phew ! No, women dont do irony.

Peter - Lay off the Mod baiting.

I have asked you nicely more than once.

Now I'm telling you.

Pack it in or I will suspend you.

All I know about La Phillips was gained from listening to her froth and fulminate on The Moral Maze on Radio 4.

She seems very unstable and given to high dudgeon.

The Corbyloon : //KHANDRO, is evidence of convoys being swarmed by young men evidence of Hamas attacks on the convoys?//

How do you define and identify a card-carrying Hamas supporter? Of course they are, what do you think they are, tourists ?

Of course they are, what do you think they are, tourists ?

no the dead tourists are in Afghanistan

Can someone please explain why it's up to israel to feed and provide for the people of gaza?

The Israelis are restricting access for the supply of food and aid.

"Land crossings are tightly controlled by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), with aid convoys subject to exhaustive inspections to prevent the delivery of ‘dual use’ items that might benefit Hamas or be used as a weapon. Stakeholders reported to ICAI an example of stone fruit being turned away for this reason. ICAI requested an interview with the Israeli authorities to comment on the reasons for the barriers to humanitarian aid, but no one was available."

"The two most consistently accessible entry points to Gaza in the south have now been disrupted by the Israeli incursion into Rafah, with severe consequences for the civilian population and aid agencies’ fuel supply. A total of 59 trucks crossed into Gaza between 5 and 13 May, compared to 500 daily before the current conflict."
