Has anyone ever had this done in the UK ? I have a cheap watch which despite that fact,  I like very much.  It has packed up & I was wondering if a new movement could be fitted.

Easy peasy, you could do it yourself or pay on the high street jewellery chains to do it.  The movements are universal although there might be exceptions.  Have a look at Amazon and you will see what I mean

I'm not suggesting you buy from Amazon, it's just so you can see what's available and the prices

barry, the vid doesn't work, but it seems from the other that tools are needed and it looks like I'd be starting on a new profession, what do you mean by easy peasy. Have you done such a thing?

If I may, here's Barry's vid -

Thanks, LiK.  Khandro, Timpson might be a good place to try if you don't want to DIY, they do a quartz replacement and if there isn't a branch near you (if you live on the moon) they offer a postal service.

barry, the name Timpson brings back memories; yes a great firm & if I remember rightly they have an excellent record for giving employment to people trying to find their feet (no pun intended) after serving a prison sentences etc.

And didn't they have an automaton in their windows; a man incessantly beating a shoe with a hammer advertising Phillips (was it?) stickasoles ?

I shall explore further tomorrow. Thanks!

I've got a better idea.

Buy a brand new watch.

Question Author

Hopkirk; I've got  watches which work, it's  is just that I like this one.

For the record & if anyone is interested, I contacted Timpsons for a quote & it is 85 quid.    -  errrr perhaps not.

Try a different jewellers, maybe an independent that sells watches, if you can find one.

Failing that, watch the YouTube vids, buy a quartz movement for around £15 and give it a go

you need to find a clock maker. my Grandfather was a German Clock Maker and I really wish I would have learned some of his skills. Good Luck!!

I watched that video barry & it does look a bit daunting !

I've got several old kaputt watches, so I might give it try. It means buying a special tool to push on the fingers & probably some tweezers.

Maybe it will be the start of a new hobby
