Menzies has lost the whip.

He has quit the Tories.

He has previously announced he is not contesting the next election.

But he continues to be the area's MP.

He has not quit, there is no By Election.

What a complete ***.

Anyone disagree ?

Labour MP Chris Matheson resigned as an MP in his Chester seat and a by election was held there in 2022.

"If they had wanted their MP to have a free vote, they would have elected an independent."

Not necessarily; eg Corbyn merrily defied the Labour whip for years. It didn't stop people wanting him as their MP

15:19, yeah but Agent Cob didn't

Nobs, Tories still have a huge majoity

For one thing they need to be seen to be taking action. And they still have a solid majority. But who's to say he won't still vote with the government?

i sort of agree ich, my husband (A dyed in the wool conservative) will not be voting for our MP this year because of her stance on transgender. She is a Conservative. He will be voting for the person not the party.

I wouldn't vote for Jeremy Corbyn if I lived in Islington even tho I support  Labour. I sort of  like our local Tory MP... However ...๐Ÿ˜€

... if Corbyn was the official Labour candidate that is - which he won't be

TTT @ 15.21 "Agent Cob" who had not a chance in hell of winning the GE... And now the Tory chances are even lower than his were๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿคฃlol .

TTT,

Not the same. Corbyn didn't resign, he was expurged. And hopes to be re-admitted. How realistic that is, I don't know.

The Fylde does seem to have a concentration of Conservative MPs who have 'had problems' shall we say.  It will be interesting to see how Reform perform in the upcoming by-election.  Their candidate seems to be a good, local man with lots of knowledge of the area.  People used to vote for the candidate - we shall see.
