Does anyone else make these themselves and eat them hot?

Apparently, this household is weird.

My oldsters love warm egg custard tart - I make large dinner plate sized ones the same as my mother made.

Oh I make them bigger than that, Barry! We have a large oblong pyrex dish that I use. It's great for the job!

I don't, but I am adding them to today's shopping list.

Waitrose, not Aldi.

Never made one. They come chilled from the bakery, don't they ? Not that I've had one for yonks.

I like the idea of that, 10C

"It can be eaten when slightly warm with a delicately wobbly center, or when cold and firm—there is no wrong way of eating this beautiful dessert. Despite the way it looks, making an egg custard tart is actually easy.19 Jan 2022"

Carry on now.

We don't need your permission to carry on, douglas

Never tried them hot, but as long as they are firm, I love them.

Would I be mistaken in thinking that my Mum would sometimes make them without the piecrust, or would that be something else?

Question Author

That is baked egg custard, very nice it is too

That's right Barry. I remember now that I wasn't keen as there was no pastry on it.

Question Author

Old folk love it, sweet, easy to eat and digest.

I love them as do my eldest son. I usually buy them. Sometimes Waitrose or Tesco.  I think I made one once. Must have another go. Anyone put cream in?

Question Author

If I've got a bit of cream that needs using up I do, if my wife hasn't snaffled it for a French coffee

N i c e..😀

Oh Barry, lighten up mate.

barry & 10CS, can you share your recipes?

I use sweet short crust pasty.

4 medium eggs, 1 pint full fat milk, 4 tbsp granulated sugar.   Nutmeg

Whisk eggs with sugar, warm milk (I do it in microwave), pour over eggs.  Pour into pastry case, nutmeg on top.

I prefer to cook it with conventional oven, not fan, at 220 for 10 mins then at 180 for 20 minutes or so until it is set.

Let it sit for 10 minutes before eating warm

Waitrose didn't have any.

I should have gone to Aldi.
