Two to one against subs. Probably because this site has less features than other forums which exist on voluntary contributions alone.

People don't like cheap substitutes.

NO !

I don't want AB to fold but I won't pay to keep it going - I'm just mean!

Possibly, if the subcription were no more than £1 a month (not a lot, I know, however I don't really know how much money is needed, or how much people can afford or are willing to part with).

If I had to pay a subscription, I'd probably want the ability to edit my own posts like you can on other forums, with a feature available to allow users to see the edits, if required - I only say that because there could be confusion if someone were to edit their post, after someone had already replied to it. I use the edit function on other forums so that I can correct any poor grammar/spelling.

Maybe even have the ability to private message other users, with their permission of course. You could have 'user options/settings' to allow/disallow friends/non-friends from private messaging (of course you'd have to add that feature too).

I think if more ABers could see some extra features added, they may be more inclined to pay a subscription fee? I don't know, just my opinion/thoughts. I took too long pondering and missed out on being able to vote.

we used to be able to PM each other, Diz; I don't know why they binned it (I don't recall anyone complaining about the feature) but maybe they just wanted to keep the site simple and focused on Q&A
