Possibly not - the wires had burnt through allegedly.

But what a brave little girl.

I would have expected the alarm to go off long before the wires melted.  As you say, brave little girl.

Often a break in the power supply will cause these to go off and if not the battery back up should make it work in the event of a fire.  Seems strange for neither of these things to happen.

FAO theshedman, I don't know anything about smoke alarms, sorry, but was wondering about the significance of your avatar? Sorry, Canary. 😥

10ClarionSt, It is the ship I was on in the seventies when I was in the RN.  It was the HMS Ark Royal.

Hard wired alarms will always have a battery or cell back up incase the mains fails. Most last for up to 10 years and all need regular testing and cleaning.

Brave girl.

Hard wired should always be better than battery, but they do need to be tested regularly and maintained.

When we had a load of rentals you would be surprised how many yanked out a (new) battery.  Crazy people.
