17+6, Allied Carpets

8 D has a clue (I've not got my copy with me).

8dn. Palliation

Can anyone give me clues for the unclued at 27d.  ?o?d?rs  and 31d. ?e?am

Tank you.

Teacher1, for 27, think Books..

Teacher1, for the other, think frozen foods (I have never seen this one, never been in this one. It could be from decades ago for all I know!)

Thank you  Neveracrossword.

Glad I could help, Quinol. I found it a rather tedious crossword!

and many thanks greyfox for confirmation - that's not a word you'd think of for disguise or readily for excuse

Quinol, Chambers dictionary gives 'to excuse'  and also 'to disguise' for palliate, so palliation seemed fine.

You're very welcome quinol and to have NAC's validation is truly an honour.

Neveracrossword, do you mean Bejams - I haven't seen one for years, are they still in business ?

Fom wiki: Bejam was a British frozen food supermarket chain founded by John Apthorp in 1968, based in Stanmore, London. The business grew to become the biggest frozen food retailer and largest seller of freezers and microwaves in Britain. The business was purchased by smaller rival, Iceland in a hostile takeover in 1989.Wikipedia

They were taken over by Iceland

Greyfox, thanks - I always welcome the chance to explore Chambers.

Canary42 and Toorak, thanks for the info. Maybe there were no branches anywhere near me, the nme was just a name.

Whooosh!!
